With Tuleap 13, the Agile Enterprise and Open Source solution provides teams with all the necessary tools to implement SAFe®, the Scaled Agile Framework®. The collaborative platform intends to support large organizations throughout their agile transformation. From methods to tools, Tuleap 13 gathers under one roof all the key ingredients for a successful agile at scale deployment.
SAFe® : the agile strategy for aligning teams with business goals
Agility is not only about software development teams, but rather a true Enterprise challenge. It has become a decisive step to take for any organization wanting to bring together and synchronize teams, as well as to secure their place in ever-changing markets. To successfully meet this challenge, SAFe® turns out to be the leading framework for agility at scale, with an overall usage rate of 37% in 2021.
Why has this scaling agile framework become so critical? Because SAFe® provides organizations with a pedagogical and adaptable framework that encompasses the collaboration practices of agility and Lean methods, to enable deploying them to a larger organizational structure. Not only does it enhance software development processes, it also aligns teams on the overall business strategy. SAFe® method and practice focuses as much on business growth as on giving answers to team members longing for “meaning” in their everyday work. It helps to spread and share a common purpose. The best of both worlds.
But when it’s time to take action and start the transition, how do you actually do it? Where should you start to get your teams involved? Coaching, training, “think-tank” workshops… they are all essential to prepare the ground for it. When it comes to actually step out to structure and synchronize teams’ work, Tuleap jumps in to bring true value and practical solutions. Thanks to its latest version, Tuleap 13 provides organizations with a ready-to-use and didactic platform to implement SAFe® step by step.

Tuleap 13: the result of one year of Research & Development, towards pragmatism
After releasing a must-have guide in early 2021 in partnership with agile coaches about how to implement agile transformation at scale, the Tuleap team has been further advancing its work in scaling agile with the release of Tuleap 13.
In order to provide new features that would definitely help enterprises deploy SAFe®, the Tuleap R&D department has discussed both with its customers and a major IT research company to identify usual use cases to understand what teams needed the most on a daily basis: just to name a few, relying on the same tools, knowing where they’re heading, easily synchronizing plannings and having as many visual items as possible. Thanks to a brand-new plugin, Tuleap 13 now enables teams to easily apply SAFe® principles.
Ready-to-use workspaces to help teams keep in sync
There is no magic formula to implement SAFe® since each and every organization has its own specificities and culture. However, starting from scratch is not that simple either. This is why Tuleap intends to provide teams with templates to be customized and largely adapted so that they best fit their precise needs.
Tuleap 13 allows Business Owners, RTE, Product Owner, Scrum Masters and developers to easily access SAFe® compliant project environments in a few clicks, thanks to its two brand-new Essential SAFe® templates:
- Agile Release Train (ART) level, to share product vision, the main features and the development roadmap;
- Teams level, to provide teams with both the autonomy to organize themselves as they wish and a framework following the Scrum approach.
Since all these workspaces are synchronized with one another, it is easy to get an overall overview of the Program’s progress as well as a detailed insight into the sprint of each team.
It is also possible to start your project from scratch, with a blank template, so that you will be able to entirely define your own SAFe® environment!
Once the project is launched, you can easily access the Product Backlog, create Features and Product Enablers. Moreover, you can plan Program Increments and start defining User Stories. Then prioritize them easily thanks to the drag-and-drop feature. You will automatically find all these User Stories at the Teams level within each Scrum team linked to the Feature.
