During our meeting with our partner Dassault Systèmes, we had the opportunity to interview Karine, a key figure in the company. This collaboration between Dassault Systèmes, a leader in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), and Tuleap, an expert in Application Lifecycle Management (ALM), has highlighted the synergies between our two solutions.
Indeed, this strategic partnership aims to meet the needs of modern industrial companies by integrating software development into the overall product design process, thereby promoting seamless collaboration between hardware and software teams.
You’ll find the interview at the end of the article.
Historically focused on mechanics and physical design, Dassault Systèmes did not offer a dedicated solution for software project management. This gap limited their ability to provide full integration across disciplines—something essential to meet the needs of high-tech industries and connected products.
Dassault Systèmes is renowned for its software solutions in product lifecycle management. By combining 3D design, manufacturing, and product tracking through the digital twin, Dassault Systèmes supports companies from the initial idea to the end of the product’s life. However, with technological advancements, products are becoming increasingly connected and integrated, requiring comprehensive management of embedded software and associated applications.

Context and Initial Challenge
The Search for a Suitable ALM Solution
In response to this challenge, Dassault Systèmes set out to find an ALM partner capable of complementing its PLM solutions.
The choice had to meet specific criteria:
Expertise in complex industrial environments.
The ability to integrate hardware and software disciplines.
Compatibility with the high-quality standards of Dassault Systèmes products.
It is in this context that Tuleap emerged as the ideal partner.

Tuleap ticked many boxes in terms of what we were looking for.
Karine CAUSSE GOBINET, High-Tech & Software Industry Solution Experience Director
Why Tuleap?
French origin: A strategic advantage to facilitate communication and ensure a deep understanding of needs.

Together, these two players offer a powerful and innovative solution to meet the growing demands of modern products. This success story demonstrates that the future of product development lies in the convergence of PLM and ALM, and that Dassault Systèmes and Tuleap are best positioned to lead this revolution.
Interview
Who are you?
Hello, so I’m Karine. I’ve been working in Dassault Systèmes for more than 25 years. Today I work in the high-tech industry. It means that I work for vertical high-tech that goes from semiconductor, the chips, to connected objects like phones, and to the big high-tech objects like data centers or networks. Our role in industry is to help our customers find the best way to use the different tools we have, find the best way to put them together to answer their way of working and their processes.
What is the role of Dassault Systèmes in the industry?
So, Dassault Systèmes is the leader in PLM, product lifecycle management. It means that we help our customers manage the definition of a product from its inception, all the way to the detailed engineering in all different disciplines, to its manufacturing and its production, and even its maintenance in real life until its end of life. Dassault Systèmes works on this whole lifecycle, and to actually help customers work, our thing is 3D, and now today it’s the virtual twin. The idea is that you model the product in all its dimensions, so that you can actually simulate how it works before building it.
Why did you decide to choose an ALM solution?
So, Dassault Systèmes, as I said, models products in all its dimensions and all its disciplines. Traditionally, we come from the 3D and from the mechanical world, where we represent the 3D dimensions of the product. But today, all types of products, whatever they are, they’re all connected, and they’re all full of software. So, it’s not enough to model the 3D of a product. You need to understand its behavior and how it will move with software. So, you need to integrate the software discipline inside the PLM.
Why have you chosen Tuleap?
So, to manage software in our products, we need an ALM solution. So, Dassault Systèmes does not have an ALM itself, so it needs to develop integration with different ALM tools. We chose Tuleap for different reasons. The first reason is, it’s French, and we knew people working for Tuleap. It’s an easy collaboration because we have the same background, and it’s easy to work together. The second reason, which is really essential, is that Tuleap is aimed for mostly industrial software. This industrial vision is really important for us, PLM, because we work for the industry.
How has Tuleap improved the collaboration between product and development teams?
So, with Tuleap, we’ve managed, in a quite tight collaboration, to put together some nice solutions so that our customers can really work with the hardware and software teams closely related together.
